Restore Your Energy II: Decode the Whispers

Body whispers are those subtle messages your body is sending you to tell you that something is not working in your life… something needs to change.
Those hidden messages are commonly referred to as body metaphors as they are somehow descriptive of the nature of the problem you are currently facing. It is much like many common expressions we use in our daily lives: “you broke my heart”, “he stabbed me in the back”, “ My shoulders carry a heavy burden”, “I can’t digest the idea”… All those expressions actually have a deeper meaning. When someone ‘breaks’ your heart, your cardiovascular and immune systems are literally affected. When you are ‘stabbed’ in the back, your spinal cord, immune system, and reproductive functions are at stake. When you cannot ‘digest’ an idea, your digestion, metabolism, and absorption are also compromised...

Emotional Centers & Physical Manifestations:

First Emotional Centre:

Also known as root chakra, your first emotional center or first chakra is your foundation. It is located at the base of the spine, at the area commonly known as the tailbone (the coccyx).
Our first chakra calls for the satisfaction of our basic human needs and holds the main instinct for survival including our safety and security, our need for belonging and our ethically-driven life. The energy of this emotional center understands that our needs as human beings extend from basic food and shelter to strengthening family and social ties and watching our values and ethics.
And, as its name implies, your foundation is the base on which we build the other emotional centers. Without a stable foundation, you cannot progress into higher levels. You cannot ask a hungry or oppressed man to enjoy beautiful scenery or work for peace and love on earth. Fundamental human needs have to be supplied first.
When out of balance, your first emotional center sends you body warnings through its associated glands, the adrenals. You feel anxious, unable to cope with stress, your blood pressure is out of balance, your bones ache, you experience constant fatigue, depression and/or your immune system falls out of synch.

First chakra malfunction is associated with most of the chronic conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, chronic lethargy and pains, chronic fatigue syndrome... It is also associated with kidney and bladder disorders, some rectal symptoms, lower back pain, depression, insomnia, and suicidal tendencies.

Second Emotional Centre:

The second chakra, also called the sacral chakra, is located 2 inches (5 cm) below the naval.
It acquires its energy from life little joys, creativity, and pleasures. It holds the critical balance between enjoyments and addictions. At this level, we learn to control our addictions, keep our inner satisfaction, and balance our worldly needs including our sexuality.

When out of balance, your sacral chakra sends you body warnings through disturbance in sexual hormones and reproductive functions, creativity block and addictive behaviors.

Third Emotional Centre:

The solar Plexus or the third chakra is located at the center of the abdomen. It gains its energy from your self esteem, your self-confidence, the inner belief in your unique powers, talents and potentials. It is the center that drives you to act, to go out and make a difference in the world, and to find your unique way of contribution.
When out of balance, your third chakra sends you body warnings through disturbed blood sugar levels, digestive disorders, liver problems, different food cravings and addictive behaviors.

Different types of cancers are also associated with this chakra imbalance. In his book, The Healing Mind, Paul Martin denotes a third personality type beyond the well-known Type A and B personalities. Type C personality type, as denoted by Martin, are cancer prone people; and those, he says, are the ones who tend to ‘bottle up’ their emotions, live in the shadow with a repressed personality and a helplessness, hopelessness, or victimhood attitude to life. They are usually self-sacrificing, under-estimating their powers and potentials or lacking assertiveness and self esteem. On the other opposing end, some of cancer-prone individuals are the over achievers who want everything and want it now. They usually get very frustrated and accumulate rage and anger when faced with any mild deflection from their self-drawn path, especially if this perceived ‘failure’ affects their over-inflated ego.

Fourth Emotional Centre:

The fourth emotional center is our heart chakra. Its essential message is love. For it to stay healthy and energized, we need to love and spread love, compassion and peace around us, we need to live in harmony with the whole world, to forgive and let go of anger and grudges, to live with a pure heart, pure consciousness, and piety.
When out of balance, your heart chakra sends its warnings mainly through your cardiovascular and immune systems. Lung diseases and breast cancer are also associated with fourth chakra malfunctions.

Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death in the USA. A part of course is largely due to bad habits like smoking, junk food, fatty diet, sedentary lifestyle… but the major risk of heart disease remains the psychological factors and behavior patterns like anger, hostility, grudge, rancor, and aggressiveness towards yourself or others.

Fifth Emotional Centre:

The fifth emotional center is located at the middle of the throat. I've seen so many young women with disturbance at this chakra level whether manifested as under or over active thyroid function. This may be the result of the repressed voice of women in many societies, a voice that is the main energizer of the fifth chakra. When healthy and balanced, this chakra allows you to find your own genuine authentic voice, align it with your life purpose and let it be heard. It allows you to communicate with your surroundings, express yourself freely and fearlessly. And, it teaches you the true meaning of surrender and of aligning your will to the Divine Will.

The link between self-expression and troat/upper respiratory tract problems is increasingly being recognized even within the conventional medical practice. Dr. Emmett Miller, one of the pioneers of Mind/Body Medicine, noticed during his long medical practice history that throat and upper respiratory tract infections were common among people who have difficulty or fear from self-expression. This link becomes very clear when facing oral examination, career determining interview, public speaking, and/or repressed opinion during arguments and conflicts. It’s as if the ability of the throat to resist infection is blocked when we are conflicted, afraid or shy about voicing our personal point of view.

Sixth Emotional Centre:

Also known as the third eye, the sixth chakra is located between your eyebrows. Its essential message is a life-essential wisdom: Perceiving hidden meaning and teachings in everyday living. It is at this energy level that we perceive the true meanings behind our trials and tribulations. It is there where we learn to be content, peaceful, and satisfied; where we learn to see beyond material gains and losses and live in the present moment.

The sixth chakra rules over the pituitary gland, the ‘maestro’ of the endocrine system. This is why any disturbance at this level affects almost all body functions.
When our sixth chakra is thrown out of order, we experience loads of associated symptoms. Common physical manifestations are stress, worries and anxiety; autoimmune disorders; immunity and reproductive system malfunctions; and metabolic disorders.

The first whispers experienced by a sixth chakra imbalance are different forms of, frequent infections, migraine, dizziness, headaches, brain fog, eye problems, and ear and hearing- related disorders.

Other physical manifestations are central nervous system malfunctions, neurological disorders, psychiatric problems, and learning difficulties. These malfunctions are mainly resulting from the inability of the person to tolerate ambiguity and her futile trial to totally control her environment and predict every step in life. She seeks to know every detail as she fails to connect the dots and is unable to see the Big Picture, heed the warnings sent her way, or learn her lessons from the endless life challenges and tests thrown at her.

Seventh Emotional Centre:

The seventh or the Crown chakra is located at the top of the head. It gains its energy from the connection with the Divine, from awe and submissiveness, faith, devotion and sincerity. When the seventh chakra is healthy, it gives you the ability to clearly see your goal and purpose in life and link every action and thought to the purpose of your creation. A healthy seventh chakra connects you with your Creator at every second in our life.

First whispers of the crown chakra are headaches, dizziness, migraine, seasonal affective disorder (SAD), fatigue, exhaustion and low energy or depression. With an out of balance crown, you lose your sense of purpose, meaning, and goal in life. You lose motivation and interest.

On a deeper level, the seventh chakra is mainly related to brain and nervous system disorders like memory loss, epilepsy, brain tumors... It is also related to system-wide disorders and fatal life threatening illnesses like autoimmune diseases and chronic physical and psychological illnesses.

Disclaimer: It is very important to stress here on the fact that if the malfunction reaches a stage where it is manifested physically, an experienced physician should be consulted. The advices given here could in no way compensate for a proper medical intervention or treatment when required. The advices in this book are aimed at prevention of disease, preservation of health before any physical manifestation and /or supporting any professional medical treatment if the disease has already shown up.

Listen to the whispers: Chronic Fatigue & Fibromyalogia

After a minor surgical operation, Nada’s symptoms started. extreme fatigue, and body wasting. Her health deteriorated fast. She lost 20 lbs. in 2 months. Her brain fog was interfering with her everyday function. She experienced profuse night sweat, continuous constipation, excruciating pain in all her muscles, difficulty in swallowing that made her only capable of consuming fluids, and her extreme exhaustion kept her bed ridden all day long.
Doctors did not have any answers. All lab tests, microbiology analysis, X-rays and MRI came back normal… So, as expected, she was sent home with an analgesic and an antidepressant. This is when Nada came to see me.

What is your body trying to tell you?

I believe that our body has a tremendous ability to heal and regenerate, we just have to give it what it needs. When physical symptoms are so severe, we have to start with the body... What does it need? Is there any missing nutrients? Are there any toxins/ allergens...?
Chronic fatigue, myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), and fibromyalgia have no known cause in conventional medicine and the offered treatment is usually pain relief medication and anti-depressants. Yet, science shows us that these conditions develop when the cells cannot generate enough energy to meet their need. Our body knows how to restore its health and energy… We just have to listen and give it what it needs in order to heal.

Nada's tiny organelles, the mitochondria, weren’t functioning properly. The mitochondria are responsible for generating energy in every cell in our body. In some sensitive people, anesthetics can cause toxicity that their bodies cannot get rid of. Toxins shut down mitochondrial function, the energy power plant of the cell.

What caused the mitochondria to malfunction? What caused the body to shout and scream? This differ from one person to another... It could be low level of B vitamin, low level of ribose -a special sugar that is essential to produce cell energy-; it could be malfunction in some biochemical pathway, it could be a hidden infection, inflammation or poor liver detoxification, it could be over exhaustion and adrenal fatigue… It could be combination of all of the above… It is the role of your natural health practitioner to help you dig for the cause then fix it. Finding the cause and fixing it are essential to heal your body & restore your health…

To function properly, Nada’s liver needed a boost to get rid of the toxins and her mitochondria needed extra nutrients from nutrient dense diet and supplements. I put Nada on a highly nutritious diet and supplement protocol that gave her body what it needed, and within 2 days her brain fog lifted. 2 weeks later she was out of bed, and within 6 months, she restored her normal everyday functions.

What is your heart trying to tell you?

The healthy diet and supplements weren’t all what Nada’s needed… My years of experience with natural healing showed me that all chronic disease and malfunctions have their roots in some emotional or spiritual need.

When all body systems start to fall down and crumble, this is a sign that you are pushing yourself beyond your physical limits; you are drained and exhausted in the literal and figurative sense of the words… It is like you have been running on empty for a long time and your body is refusing to cope with further demands and extra responsibilities.

Chronic fatigue, myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), and fibromyalgia stem from malfunctions in the first (root) chakra, the third (solar plexus), the fourth (heart) and/or the sixth (eyebrow) chakras.

The root or basic chakra is thrown out of balance when you feel ungrounded, un-protected, and unsupported. When life seems overwhelming and unfair. When you feel oppressed and forced into direction that you dread. Or, when you are constantly running on over-drive, in a fight and flight mode.

The Third Chakra is related to your sense of self worth, of accomplishments, of feeling that you are ‘good enough’, you are talented and gifted enough. The Third Chakra starts to whisper when you feel victimized, helpless or hopeless.

The Heart Chakra starts to whisper when you lack self-love, self-care and self-nurture; when you feel some form of self-rejection or you beat yourself up in guilt and shame over not being ‘good enough’.

The Sixth Chakra whispers when you fail to see a higher meaning and purpose in your life trials, challenges and sufferings; when you are paralyzed by fear or dreading your current reality; when you lose your direction and meaning in life.

Nada led a highly stressful life... relationship problems, work overload, and two needy toddlers. Listening and digging for what her heart and soul needed were essential and crucial steps in healing. I helped her listen and together we crafted a plan to feed her heart and nurture her soul.
In many cases, we cannot change or physical reality, our circumstances and our environment, but we surely can change our mindset, our perception and our approach... Remember, you always have the choice!

Protect Your Brain

Do you know that you can protect your brain with simple diet and lifestyle changes?

 January is Alzheimer Awareness month...

In 1997, 678 nuns participated in a study for mental power and function at old age. One nun’s story stood out, Sister Mary.

Sister Mary taught thousands of students during a career that spanned over nearly 70 years. When she retired from the classroom at age 84, she continued her mission as an educator until her death 17 years later. “In her "retirement" she continued to be active in her community and concerned about world events. She was an avid reader and was often seen poring over newspapers and books with her magnifying glass.” During her last functional assessment at the age of 101, sister Mary was mentally alert, aware and her memory, reasoning and knowledge were perfectly intact.

But, this is not the most important finding of the study. The most fascinating thing was sister Mary's brain scan. When scientists scanned her brain after she passed away, the scan showed the presence of lots of Alzheimer's lesions. Sister Mary’s brain actually had all manifestation of an Alzheimer’s patient brain, yet she showed no degenerative symptoms at all. She lived to a very ripe age with perfectly intact brain function, good memory, excellent orientation to her surroundings and awareness of current events.

Sister Mary was different from the rest of the nuns. She had a mission, a life meaning, and a passion. She remained passionate learner. She continued to be active in her community till her last days in life. She was known for her joyful spirit and laugh that boomed out of her room at all hours of the day and night.
Were these the characteristics that saved her brain? Scientists truly believe so.

You Diet Is Also Important

When we talk chronic degenerative diseases, prevention is always better that treatment. Alzheimer is now known as type III diabetes. It is a case of brain starvation where brain cells are unable to use glucose efficiently to generate the energy they need. This results in gradual brain degeneration.

Scientists believe that Alzheimer can be avoided years before it starts by balancing blood sugar levels, avoiding refined sugars and integrating healthy anti-inflammatory, brain boosting herbs and spices into our diet. Five herbs stand out here:
  1. Sage
  2. Rosemary
  3. Turmeric
  4. Ginger
  5. Gotu kola
These herbs are available in most supermarket and health food stores. You easily Integrate them into your daily diet as teas, food spice, salad dressing, curry sauce or meat marinades.

Coconut oil is another amazing addition to your diet. Try integrating it into your daily recipes. It is great in cooking, baking, sandwich spread instead of butter, salad dressing mixed with olive oil and your favorite herbs… Studies show that the medium chain fatty acid content of coconut oil provides brain cells with the needed energy when they lost their ability to use glucose efficiently.
