Those hidden messages are commonly referred to as body metaphors as they are somehow descriptive of the nature of the problem you are currently facing. It is much like many common expressions we use in our daily lives: “you broke my heart”, “he stabbed me in the back”, “ My shoulders carry a heavy burden”, “I can’t digest the idea”… All those expressions actually have a deeper meaning. When someone ‘breaks’ your heart, your cardiovascular and immune systems are literally affected. When you are ‘stabbed’ in the back, your spinal cord, immune system, and reproductive functions are at stake. When you cannot ‘digest’ an idea, your digestion, metabolism, and absorption are also compromised...
Emotional Centers & Physical Manifestations:
First Emotional Centre:
Also known as root chakra, your first emotional center or first chakra is your foundation. It is located at the base of the spine, at the area commonly known as the tailbone (the coccyx).
Our first chakra calls for the satisfaction of our basic human needs and holds the main instinct for survival including our safety and security, our need for belonging and our ethically-driven life. The energy of this emotional center understands that our needs as human beings extend from basic food and shelter to strengthening family and social ties and watching our values and ethics.
And, as its name implies, your foundation is the base on which we build the other emotional centers. Without a stable foundation, you cannot progress into higher levels. You cannot ask a hungry or oppressed man to enjoy beautiful scenery or work for peace and love on earth. Fundamental human needs have to be supplied first.
When out of balance, your first emotional center sends you body warnings through its associated glands, the adrenals. You feel anxious, unable to cope with stress, your blood pressure is out of balance, your bones ache, you experience constant fatigue, depression and/or your immune system falls out of synch.
First chakra malfunction is associated with most of the chronic conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, chronic lethargy and pains, chronic fatigue syndrome... It is also associated with kidney and bladder disorders, some rectal symptoms, lower back pain, depression, insomnia, and suicidal tendencies.
Second Emotional Centre:
The second chakra, also called the sacral chakra, is located 2 inches (5 cm) below the naval.
It acquires its energy from life little joys, creativity, and pleasures. It holds the critical balance between enjoyments and addictions. At this level, we learn to control our addictions, keep our inner satisfaction, and balance our worldly needs including our sexuality.
When out of balance, your sacral chakra sends you body warnings through disturbance in sexual hormones and reproductive functions, creativity block and addictive behaviors.
Third Emotional Centre:
The solar Plexus or the third chakra is located at the center of the abdomen. It gains its energy from your self esteem, your self-confidence, the inner belief in your unique powers, talents and potentials. It is the center that drives you to act, to go out and make a difference in the world, and to find your unique way of contribution.
When out of balance, your third chakra sends you body warnings through disturbed blood sugar levels, digestive disorders, liver problems, different food cravings and addictive behaviors.
Different types of cancers are also associated with this chakra imbalance. In his book, The Healing Mind, Paul Martin denotes a third personality type beyond the well-known Type A and B personalities. Type C personality type, as denoted by Martin, are cancer prone people; and those, he says, are the ones who tend to ‘bottle up’ their emotions, live in the shadow with a repressed personality and a helplessness, hopelessness, or victimhood attitude to life. They are usually self-sacrificing, under-estimating their powers and potentials or lacking assertiveness and self esteem. On the other opposing end, some of cancer-prone individuals are the over achievers who want everything and want it now. They usually get very frustrated and accumulate rage and anger when faced with any mild deflection from their self-drawn path, especially if this perceived ‘failure’ affects their over-inflated ego.
Fourth Emotional Centre:
The fourth emotional center is our heart chakra. Its essential message is love. For it to stay healthy and energized, we need to love and spread love, compassion and peace around us, we need to live in harmony with the whole world, to forgive and let go of anger and grudges, to live with a pure heart, pure consciousness, and piety.
When out of balance, your heart chakra sends its warnings mainly through your cardiovascular and immune systems. Lung diseases and breast cancer are also associated with fourth chakra malfunctions.
Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death in the USA. A part of course is largely due to bad habits like smoking, junk food, fatty diet, sedentary lifestyle… but the major risk of heart disease remains the psychological factors and behavior patterns like anger, hostility, grudge, rancor, and aggressiveness towards yourself or others.
Fifth Emotional Centre:
The fifth emotional center is located at the middle of the throat. I've seen so many young women with disturbance at this chakra level whether manifested as under or over active thyroid function. This may be the result of the repressed voice of women in many societies, a voice that is the main energizer of the fifth chakra. When healthy and balanced, this chakra allows you to find your own genuine authentic voice, align it with your life purpose and let it be heard. It allows you to communicate with your surroundings, express yourself freely and fearlessly. And, it teaches you the true meaning of surrender and of aligning your will to the Divine Will.
The link between self-expression and troat/upper respiratory tract problems is increasingly being recognized even within the conventional medical practice. Dr. Emmett Miller, one of the pioneers of Mind/Body Medicine, noticed during his long medical practice history that throat and upper respiratory tract infections were common among people who have difficulty or fear from self-expression. This link becomes very clear when facing oral examination, career determining interview, public speaking, and/or repressed opinion during arguments and conflicts. It’s as if the ability of the throat to resist infection is blocked when we are conflicted, afraid or shy about voicing our personal point of view.
Sixth Emotional Centre:
Also known as the third eye, the sixth chakra is located between your eyebrows. Its essential message is a life-essential wisdom: Perceiving hidden meaning and teachings in everyday living. It is at this energy level that we perceive the true meanings behind our trials and tribulations. It is there where we learn to be content, peaceful, and satisfied; where we learn to see beyond material gains and losses and live in the present moment.
The sixth chakra rules over the pituitary gland, the ‘maestro’ of the endocrine system. This is why any disturbance at this level affects almost all body functions.
When our sixth chakra is thrown out of order, we experience loads of associated symptoms. Common physical manifestations are stress, worries and anxiety; autoimmune disorders; immunity and reproductive system malfunctions; and metabolic disorders.
The first whispers experienced by a sixth chakra imbalance are different forms of, frequent infections, migraine, dizziness, headaches, brain fog, eye problems, and ear and hearing- related disorders.
Other physical manifestations are central nervous system malfunctions, neurological disorders, psychiatric problems, and learning difficulties. These malfunctions are mainly resulting from the inability of the person to tolerate ambiguity and her futile trial to totally control her environment and predict every step in life. She seeks to know every detail as she fails to connect the dots and is unable to see the Big Picture, heed the warnings sent her way, or learn her lessons from the endless life challenges and tests thrown at her.
Seventh Emotional Centre:
The seventh or the Crown chakra is located at the top of the head. It gains its energy from the connection with the Divine, from awe and submissiveness, faith, devotion and sincerity. When the seventh chakra is healthy, it gives you the ability to clearly see your goal and purpose in life and link every action and thought to the purpose of your creation. A healthy seventh chakra connects you with your Creator at every second in our life.
First whispers of the crown chakra are headaches, dizziness, migraine, seasonal affective disorder (SAD), fatigue, exhaustion and low energy or depression. With an out of balance crown, you lose your sense of purpose, meaning, and goal in life. You lose motivation and interest.
On a deeper level, the seventh chakra is mainly related to brain and nervous system disorders like memory loss, epilepsy, brain tumors... It is also related to system-wide disorders and fatal life threatening illnesses like autoimmune diseases and chronic physical and psychological illnesses.
